Currituck Beach Light

Rising above the windswept shores of Corolla, North Carolina, Currituck Beach Light has guided mariners since 1875. The [X]-foot brick tower stands unpainted — deliberately left in its natural red brick to distinguish it from neighboring white lighthouses along the Outer Banks. Still an active aid to navigation, the lighthouse is not currently open to public climbing.

Photographers find the best light during golden hour, when the warm brick glows against coastal skies. Early morning visits avoid crowds at the surrounding grounds.

While here, explore the adjacent Whalehead Club, a restored 1920s Art Nouveau hunting lodge, and stroll the Currituck Heritage Park grounds. Wild Corolla horses often roam the nearby beaches to the north.
