Cherrystone Bar Light

Built in 1858 near Cape Charles, Virginia, Cherrystone Bar Light once guided vessels through the lower Chesapeake Bay. This screwpile lighthouse marked the dangerous shoals extending from Cherrystone Inlet, serving mariners for decades before being deactivated. The light is no longer active and is not open to the public — visitors cannot climb the structure.

The lighthouse is best appreciated from the water. Golden hour and early morning offer ideal photography conditions, with the Bay providing dramatic backdrops. Charter a boat from Cape Charles harbor for the closest views.
