Tinicum Island Rear Range Light
Delaware River · New Jersey
Standing in Paulsboro, New Jersey, since 1880, the Tinicum Island Rear Range Light has guided vessels along the Delaware River for nearly 150 years. This active navigational aid originally worked in tandem with a front range light, helping mariners align their course through treacherous river channels. Its wrought-iron skeletal tower design makes it a distinctive landmark along the waterfront.
The lighthouse is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower. However, it can be viewed and photographed from nearby roads and shoreline areas. Golden hour provides the best lighting for photography, especially at sunset when the tower silhouettes against the river sky.
Nearby, explore Red Bank Battlefield Park and Fort Mercer, rich in Revolutionary War history.
