Established in 1858, Willapa Bay Light guided mariners through the treacherous waters of Willapa Bay on Washington’s southwestern coast. The lighthouse faced a constant battle with erosion, as the shifting sands of the bay gradually undermined its foundation — a struggle that ultimately led to its decommissioning. No longer active, the original structure has been lost to the elements, making it one of Washington’s most storied lost lighthouses.

The site is not open to the public for climbing or tours. Photographers will find the best light during golden hour on clear autumn evenings, when the bay reflects dramatic coastal skies. Nearby, visitors can explore Leadbetter Point State Park, the Long Beach Peninsula, and the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.
