Munising Front Range Light

Built in 1908, the Munising Front Range Light has guided vessels through Munising Bay on Lake Superior’s southern shore for over a century. This steel-skeleton tower worked in tandem with the rear range light to help ships safely navigate the harbor channel. Still an active aid to navigation, the lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, but it can be viewed and photographed from nearby vantage points along the waterfront. Golden hour light reflecting off Munising Bay makes sunrise and sunset ideal for photography. Visitors to the area can explore Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, take glass-bottom boat tours over nearby shipwrecks, and visit Grand Island just offshore.
