Perched on the western shore of Grand Island near Munising, Michigan, this charming wooden lighthouse has guided mariners through the East Channel since 1870. The modest tower, one of the earliest navigational aids on Lake Superior’s southern shore, retains its original Victorian-era character with a distinctive schoolhouse-style design that sets it apart from Michigan’s many lighthouses.

The light remains active but is not open to the public. Visitors can view it by boat or kayak from Munising’s waterfront. Golden hour in late summer offers the best photography conditions, with warm light reflecting off the sandstone cliffs.
