Fort Gratiot Light

Standing at the southern tip of Lake Huron in Port Huron, Michigan, Fort Gratiot Light is the oldest lighthouse in the state, first lit in 1825. The original tower collapsed and was rebuilt in 1829, with subsequent expansions raising it to 82 feet. It remains an active navigational aid operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The lighthouse is not open to public climbing, but the grounds and surrounding Fort Gratiot County Park offer excellent views. Golden hour on summer evenings produces the best photography, with the lighthouse silhouetted against Lake Huron sunsets.

Nearby, visitors can explore the Blue Water Bridge, the Huron Lightship Museum, and Port Huron’s historic downtown waterfront district.
