Standing on the northern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island near Halaula, Kauhola Point Light has guided mariners since 1897. This historic beacon served as a vital navigational aid along the rugged Kohala Coast for over a century before being deactivated. Though no longer an active aid to navigation, the lighthouse remains a striking landmark against the dramatic coastal cliffs.

The site is not open to the public for climbing or interior access, but the surrounding area offers excellent exterior viewing. Golden hour before sunset provides the best photography conditions, with the lighthouse silhouetted against the Pacific. Nearby, visitors can explore Pololu Valley Lookout, the historic town of Hawi, and the Kohala Mountain Road’s sweeping ocean vistas.
