Tucked along the Missouri River in Bon Homme County, Springfield Recreation Area offers a compact but rewarding 24-acre escape in southeastern South Dakota. The best time to visit runs from late May through September, when the lake is warm enough for swimming and the fishing is most productive. Early fall brings fewer crowds and pleasant temperatures for hiking and shore fishing.
