At just 35 acres, this compact park punches above its size, serving as a gateway to one of the longest free-flowing blackwater rivers in North America.

The Edisto River is the main attraction here. Paddlers come for the dark, tannin-stained water that winds through towering cypress and tupelo trees draped in Spanish moss. Canoe and kayak launches make it easy to get on the water, whether you’re planning a short afternoon paddle or a multi-day trip downstream. Fishing is popular along the riverbank, with bream, catfish, and largemouth bass drawing anglers year-round.

On land, a nature trail loops through the bottomland hardwood forest, offering chances to spot great blue herons, barred owls, and the occasional river otter. The park’s picnic shelters sit right along the river, making for a scenic lunch stop on a Lowcountry road trip.

Campgrounds with water and electric hookups provide a solid base for weekend stays. The sites are shaded and well-spaced, with the sound of the river filling in for any missing amenities.

Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather and the best paddling conditions. Summer is lush but humid, with afternoon thunderstorms rolling through regularly. Winter stays mild enough for camping, and the bare canopy opens up river views you won’t get any other time of year.
